Spenser, a former Boston patrolman who just got out from prison, teams up with Hawk, an aspiring fighter, to unravel the truth behind the death of two police officers.
This unimpressive, lazily-plotted update may fail older Spenser fans, but will possibly find new ones on Netflix. Mark Wahlberg is a natural in this function created for him with pal Peter Berg directing. Around the fifth time, Spenser is cornered and outnumbered by the bad guys, there’s no sympathy, really. Either he’ll overpower all of them, or even the saintly sidekick will appear to save his sculpted fighter’s body.
The good thing is that everyone seems to be having a terrific time making Spenser Confidential. Winston Duke because Hawk could evolve strongly, though he is the polar opposite of Robert Parker’s original body guy. Comic actor Iliza Shlesinger lights up the screen every time she shows up, and there’s suspense there — what will she do next? And to get some action lovers, predictable is often comforting, as is watching bad guys of all shapes, colors, and dimensions get what is coming to them.
