Robert Neville is a scientist who was unable to stop the spread of the terrible virus that was incurable and man-made. Immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and perhaps the world. For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. But he is not alone.
Supervisor Francis Lawrence has a means with suspense; leaping out of your seat is virtually a need right here. Onscreen, Manhattan changes into a real island, isolated, eliminated, and breaking down. Weeds grow on the streets, Times Square is deserted, the Flatiron Structure sits neglected, and also an eerie hush has actually dropped. Bravo to the unique results staff, who have actually created a New york city never seen before (except, perhaps, in Retreat to New York). The results are nothing short of remarkable.
Yet the tale ultimately lets down. It starts solid, hooking viewers in. However, it sputters in the long run. It’s as if the film writers (or supervisor, or producer) ran out of means to wrap it up. Or maybe the film just doesn’t have the same nuances as the Richard Matheson book on which it’s based. Still, you can not fault I Am Legend for trying to be various from the typical action thriller. Tackling such styles as mankind’s requirement for companionship, the fight for survival, and the presence of God, it at least does well in making us assume.
